Online Journal Week 7

This week we finally got to work with the super cool (!) Refill Kids out at Miller Tech High in Liverpool. Cass and I both had so much fun!! The Refill boys had us in stitches for pretty much the entire time (so we weren’t really of that much help to the workshop facilitator - the very patient Jeremy). Our role on the day was basically to document the workshop process and assist Jeremy wherever possible. So, armed with both a video and still camera Cass and I set about creating a visual record of the day. But . . . this task became a bit of a challenge as we found ourselves so involved in the workshop and the antics of the kids. I kept forgetting about the camera and therefore missed the opportunity to capture some great moments from the day (oh well).
The purpose of the actual workshop was to develop and film some funny skits the Refill boys had come up with. One of which involved a romantic reunion between a boy and a block of chocolate. In this skit a boy and a girl (Dean in a curly wig) are pictured running toward each other from opposite sides of the room (or ends of the earth) and just as you think they’ll meet in an epic embrace, the boy ditches the girl and heads for a block of creamy Cadbury goodness. I’m thinking slow mo, misty lighting effects and of course ‘Chariots of Fire’. Now why don’t they do this kinda workshop at uni! I can imagine Mat Wall-Smith and Gillian Fuller enjoying this immensely. Anyways . . . I hope we get the opportunity to go back to visit the refill kids again!
Thursday turned out to be a bit of a weird day. Cass was sick and I was sent to a dark hole at Curiousworks headquarters deemed ‘The Study of Doom’. Well, Peter and Shakthi had an important meeting going on in the office space so I spent the majority of the morning drawing whilst watching the movie ‘Shine’ (not a bad way to spend the day). In the afternoon I was brought back to the land of the living and started editing our ‘How To Use a Flip Camera’ video for All Around You. This was pretty straightforward, no need for creative brilliance, so I had it basically finished by 5. All I need to do to finish it entirely is create some diagrams of the Flip to be inserted at specific points. So that was it for Week 7!
