It’s coming to the end of the Internship and things are easing up. Cass and I have just a few more things to finish up and we’re done. Nooooo! That means uni is almost back! Hours and hours of brain haemorrhage’s to come. Yeah . . . not looking forward to 3rd year.

Last Wednesday was interesting. Cass and I set off for the wonderfully bizarre land that is Central Station to conduct random vox pops. We discovered that it is excruciatingly hard to get people to chat to you on camera. They see you coming and go into some kinda survival mode – head down, quick strides and frown on. “Don’t pick me, don’t pick me.” It felt like we were the Jehovah Witnesses of Central Station for two hours. Anyways, we did manage to convince some nice people to chat with us for a moment about their favourite renegades/rebels/radicals/heroes. Our first victim could hardly speak English, but did manage to spell out that his hero was Jesus. Jesus. Hmmn, I forgot about him. Anyways, on to the next. Random No.2 chose Frida Kahlo (I was stoked). And then there was the busker . . . a mild mannered metal head that stole Cass’s heart. But my favourite was probably the older guy that chose Auguste Rodin. He had the most awesome grandpa voice that exaggerated all the shhhh’s and ooooo’s in a sentence. So, after completing this task I find that I have a lot more respect for shows like Current Affair (clear throat) because they conduct vox pops allllll the time. You have so little control over what ends up in your frame, what is said and what isn’t. On the other hand editing something like this is almost painless because of the simplicity of the content (the hardest thing was trying to sync the audio perfectly). So, Cass and I were able to finish a rough edit by the end of the day.

At the end of the week Peter and I interviewed two female hip hop artists named Candy and Kim Bowers as part of a video profile around the ‘renegade’ theme. The girls made our job quite easy because of their generous and intelligent responses to the questions. So it was just a matter of point and shoot really. Hopefully the editing is just as straightforward.
