How Sachi Lost His Leg - an underwater folk tale

a fisherman
a strange underwater world
a dancing
and a leg that goes missing

'Off The Wall' was a cross training and skills development in Capoeira (a South American acrobatic martial art) and puppetry. Starting from a series of workshops with over eighty young people from local schools and youth services, this program led to a high visibility site-specific performance called How Sachi Lost His Leg - an urban underwater folk tale. A three metre tall puppet sailed from a thirteen metre wall (in Memorial Square, Hurstville) dancing around on an 'ocean floor' with giant sharks and acrobatic fish. Young people, many of whom had never performed before, worked with the Shopfront ensemble and were encouraged to tell their stories, create puppets and a performance from newly aquired skills.
